Zhang Du’s work, named for the Han hall where Emperor Wen heard Jia Yi on ghosts and spirits, proves that ruler-level policy conversation must include the unseen as risk and resource. The argument is that political rationality incomplete without 神道 data is false thrift of attention.
1) Before yearly planning, hold a personal 宣室: review omens, health, ethics, and chart 忌神 as cabinet reports. 2) Leaders: treat team ‘ghosts’ (burnout, rumor, silent resentment) as real 阴 factors. 3) Cultivate listening virtue (印) equal to decisive 杀. 4) Separate Jia Yi-style analytic speech about spirits from vulgar fearmongering. 5) After decisions, audit unseen side-effects as Zhang Du’s cases would.
More explicitly political-classical in frame than most 志怪; less comic-folk than 济公, less romantic than 聊斋. It is the template for integrating spirit-causality into high-level timing and governance of one’s fate.
