Early Ming chuanqi collection by Qu You (瞿佑). Romance, ghosts, underworld courts, and karmic plots in ornate prose; revived Tang-style tale after Song historiography turn. Doctrines: 冥司公正、情可感鬼、轮回果报; underworld bureaucracy mirrors mortal yamen. Methods: framed narratives, poetry exchanges with spirits, historical settings. Terminology: 冥府、再世、幽婚、冤魂. Influenced Korean/Japanese adaptations and later Qing zhiguai; bridges literary fiction and popular religious imagination of diyu (地狱) and yuanhun (冤魂).

Core argument: early Ming chuanqi proves that after dynastic rupture, the underworld, ghosts, and retributive law become the narrative court where human justice fails—fiction argues that moral causality is stricter than official law. Love and exam ambition are tested against ghostly contract and karmic ledger.
1) In BaZi ethics counseling, stress vow-keeping and debt-clearing as luck factors (not only gods). 2) Read Peach Blossom / Officer patterns with 剪灯-style caution: desire without ritual form invites ghostly backlash metaphors. 3) Use story structure for timing: crisis → ritual recognition → resolution as luck-cycle template. 4) For cultivation, practice ‘clearing unfinished business’ (apology, offering, ending false vows). 5) Distinguish entertainment omen from chart evidence when clients bring ghost dreams.
More structured and literati than later oral-flavored Qing zhiguai; less encyclopedic than leishu. Differs from 耳食录 by stronger early-Ming exam-and-ghost moral architecture rather than Qing social satire.
