Thông u ký được Tân Đường thư nghệ văn chí chép một quyển; nguyên thư đã thất, còn khoảng hơn 20 di văn trong Thái bình quảng ký. Nội dung nghiêng về u minh, báo ứng, nhân duyên quỷ hồn thời trước Trinh Nguyên. Là nguồn chí quái trung Đường quan trọng nhưng chỉ còn dạng tập di.

唐陈劭（一作召）撰，《新唐书·艺文志》作一卷，《崇文总目》《宋志》或作三卷，原书已佚，佚文见《太平广记》等。书名「通幽」即打通幽冥与人间的见闻。所存故事多写人鬼相恋、魂游、冥婚、梦感，著名者如唐晅与亡妻再聚（「事见唐晅手记」体），情节婉转，已具传奇笔法。核心是「通幽」叙事：以手记、亲历口吻增强真实感，写死生契阔与情缘未尽。术语：手记、魂聚、冥契。本质是中唐「情」压倒「惩戒」的人鬼小说代表，上承《广异记》人鬼情缘而更重心理。

It proves that access to hidden realms is gated by subtle conditions—timing, purity, recognition, and “通” (通达) capacity—so destiny includes not only what happens but who can perceive why it happens. The text’s logic is epistemological: the occult is continuous with this world, yet sealed to the unprepared.

Unlike 广异记’s wide catalog, 通幽记 stresses mediation and access—how the hidden becomes known. It is less calendrical than 乙巳占 and less polemical than 辩伪录. Relative to 汉武洞冥记, it is less imperial-spectacular and more case-based on ordinary passages into the occult.
