Lịch lộc mệnh thuần túy: mỗi ngày trong lục thập giáp tý có thần bản mệnh trực nhật, tinh tú và số tùng quan. Tra ngày sinh (bản mệnh nguyên thần) là biết thần chủ mệnh và sao tương ứng để luận vận. Thuật này đã có từ Hán–Ngụy, thịnh từ Tùy–Đường.

隋唐前後祿命曆書，一卷入正一部。體現漢魏以來「元辰」信仰：上天每日神靈輪值，人出生日所值之神即「本命神」，決定一生命運。《隋書·經籍志》五行類有「元辰曆」，或即其源。全書以六十甲子為綱，逐日記：（1）本命神姓名（如甲子本命王文卿）；（2）從官人數；（3）所屬星宿（如貪狼星）；（4）元辰神名與性別等。推命時據生日（本命元辰）查曆即可。此為命理「本命元辰」與六十甲子神譜之早期定型，後世拜本命、安太歲、推祿命多沿此結構。
