题天台紫阳真人张平叔撰，并长序与五言百句四百字正文。序释七返九还：七火数、九金数，以火炼金返本还源；身心上下弦、神气冬夏至、形神坎离；攒簇五行、和合四象、五气朝元、三花聚顶。精气神须炼元精元气元神，非交感呼吸思虑之滓。点出身中一窍名玄牝：非心肾口鼻脾胃谷道膀胱丹田泥丸，乃神气之根、虚无之谷。火候朝屯暮蒙、沐浴抽添、二万刻夺三万年。正文以真土擒真铅、真铅制真汞开篇，迄夫妇交会生儿骑鹤。总摄南宗丹法药火窍妙，言约义丰，为《悟真篇》之精炼诀要。
