Phần “ngoại” của Bão Phác Tử (khoảng 50 thiên): luận thời chính, nhân sự, học thuật, ẩn dật—bổ sung cho nội thiên thần tiên. Là tử thư Đạo–Nho giao thoa, nền tảng tư tưởng Cát Hồng ngoài đan đạo.
Ứng dụng: Đọc song song nội thiên; tra quan điểm chính trị–xã hội và văn luận của Cát Hồng.
Ge Hong’s Outer Chapters form a Confucian-leaning political-ethical counterpart to the Inner Chapters’ alchemy: 用世 (engagement), 嘉遁 (worthy withdrawal), 臣道, and critique of empty talk vs. practical talent (才). Doctrines stress 仁义 as social order, 博学而约取, and that true 隐 is not escape but measured service—mirroring BaZi’s tension between 身强/用神 as public agency vs. 印比 as retreat when the chart cannot bear office.
⚡ Ứng dụng: Dùng để đối chiếu chart ‘dụng thế’ vs ‘thoái ẩn’: khi quan-lộc nặng mà thân nhược, ưu tiên 嘉遁/điều độ hơn cưỡng cầu chức vị.
🔗 Liên quan: 抱朴子内篇; 老子; 文子
Social and political order, not only inner alchemy, determine whether human excellence can appear: virtue, talent, and learning require institutional soil. The Outer Chapters prove that Daoist cultivation is incomplete if it ignores worldly structure—fame, office, custom, and critique of empty reclusion.
1) Read BaZi ‘官杀印食’ not only as private fate but as fit for roles, hierarchy, and public function. 2) Balance reclusive practice with ethical conduct in family/work as 外篇 demands. 3) Use chart diagnosis to advise vocation fit, not only spiritual fantasy. 4) Critique self-cultivation that flees responsibility while claiming transcendence.
Unlike 抱朴子内篇 (elixirs, immortals), the 外篇 argues socially. Unlike 素书, which gives strategists maxims, 外篇 is broader cultural critique. Unlike 人物志, it embeds talent discourse in a Daoist-literati program that still values transcendence without abandoning the world.
